Angle Shades

Phlogophora meticulosa
Noctuidae
1 / 4
Description

The Angle Shades caterpillar is particularly variable: a bright green form and a pinkish-brown, sometimes yellowish form can both be found. In both cases, it displays a discontinuous white dorsal line and two pale lateral bands. The head is pale, matching the rest of the body. It feeds at night and hides in low vegetation during the day. It is the caterpillar that overwinters, and the two annual generations overlap, making the species observable practically year-round.
